Our Values

The Kings Beach Surf Club is a not for profit venue, that offers it’s patrons Bar, Bistro and Gaming facilities, with all proceeds going directly to support vital life saving activities on Kings Beach.

We have recently completed a significant redevelopment of the club, being the construction of an open air deck, for the use and enjoyment of members and patrons.

To assist the funding of this initiative, we have offered individuals and businesses the opportunity to contribute to it’s construction through our “Buy a Board” campaign.

We believe in the power of community and the strength that comes from coming together. Kings Beach Surf Club is a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can connect, socialise, and form lifelong friendships. Club History

Our journey began in 1933 when Caloundra was a quaint fishing and holiday village, home to only 700 to 1000 residents. Back then, there was no electricity, and rainwater tanks provided water while backyard thunderboxes served as the family toilets. The town’s roads were unpaved, lacking kerbs and channelling, and only a handful of motor vehicles could be seen. During this time, locals and vacationers enjoyed swimming in both the surf and still waters, but there was no official lifesaving club.

Originally known as the Metropolitan Life Saving Club, our club was established in Brisbane as a unit of the Royal Life Saving Society in 1924. Mr Walter Soden served as our first President, with Mr Ivan Gillespie as the inaugural Secretary. Initially, we patrolled Ocean Beach on Bribie Island until 1933, and in 1930, we became affiliated with the Surf Life Saving Association. In the Christmas season of 1932, the Landsborough Shire Council approached our Club, requesting our members to patrol Kings Beach during the holiday period.

Several of our members volunteered, and tents were set up at the northern end of Kings Beach in front of Fristrom’s shop and Boarding House, where the boys had their meals. The participants cherished this experience so much that the entire Club decided to relocate from Bribie to Caloundra. A few members who had ties to Bribie chose to remain and establish a new Club, the Bribie Island Surf Life Saving Club.

In recognition of our move, the Metropolitan Club changed its name to Metropolitan-Caloundra Life Saving Club, later adding the word “surf.” Our second hut, located behind the surfing area at Kings Beach, was completed in December 1933 and officially opened by Councillor Bray on January 28, 1934. However, due to subsequent cyclones, the hut had to be relocated twice. Eventually, we settled in our present Clubhouse, close to the original spot where our pioneering members had their tent accommodation in 1932.

With the assistance of the State Government and the Landsborough Shire Council, we erected a brick Clubhouse near Margery Path, Kings Beach, in 1958. This impressive facility, valued at the time at approximately $16,000, was officially inaugurated on November 1, 1958, by the President of the North Coast Branch, Hon F R Nicklin, who also served as our Club’s Patron.

Today, Kings Beach Surf Club welcomes you with open arms. Situated by the saltwater pool at the northern end of Kings Beach, our club offers a beautiful modern restaurant, a bar with gaming facilities, and a breathtaking view overlooking the Brisbane Shipping Lane. We have recently undergone stunning renovations and now boast a contemporary, value-packed menu. Our friendly and welcoming atmosphere is the perfect place to unwind and savour delicious food, beverages, entertainment, and the company of fellow beachgoers.

Every Friday night, you can put on your dancing shoes and enjoy live music from 6:45 pm. We also provide activity packs with all kids’ meals and offer great value specials on our blackboard, where our chef takes delight in presenting handpicked favourites.

Come and experience the warmth of Kings Beach Surf Club, where the rich history and vibrant present meet to create unforgettable moments.
